Wintering around DFW area?

Does anyone winter in the DFW area? I have friends and family in the area and thought about spending a month.

  • We have friends that are staying at Tree Tops.......be aware.....this park is not what it used to be. No landscaping and the dried leaves have created a rat, mice, snake problem.
  • It gets very cold there and usually a few Ice storm's.
  • Check out Tree Tops RV park in Arlington just off expressway south side.
  • As noted above, you just never know about the weather. Here 30 miles north of Dallas it was 75 last Saturday afternoon, 17 Sunday morning, and 12 Monday morning. Back into the 50's during the week, and 70's today and tomorrow.
January and February will average 2-3 winter storms, usually sleet and freezing rain rather than a good snow. But "average" means some years there will be no winter storms, and other years there may be 4 or 5. But it can be golf weather 2 days before a storm and again 2-3 days after a storm.
  • Haven't stayed there in an RV, but lived there for many years. The weather can run the gamut - ice storms to shirt sleeve weather in the winter. The area can get some really high winds, too. I sailed through the winters there - but I picked my days carefully. Here are the almanac tables for December and January:

    December

    January

At a minimum, I would plan on skirting, a heated water hose, and a large propane tank.
