Last week we stayed at the Bakersfield Palms RV Park in Bakersfield,CA. We thought we had asked all the right questions when making this reservation, but obviously not. There is a railroad track on one side of this park and a busy highway on another side. Restrooms are locked from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m., even though we had a pass code to the door. The park is divided into short term and long term by a fence. The long term side is populated by broken down RVs. We found a man lying on the floor in the men's restroom, not sick. Not given a code to the internet connection at checkout and office closed when we went for it. Not a safe or restful stop. Office staff just said "sorry about that" to our complaints.
I full time so my stops are just for the night. Even so I do a Google earth search, google maps street view for EACH and EVERY CG to see what it looks like and what is around it before I commit.
If it looks questionable and I really don't want to go further down the road to find another one, that warrants a phone call with ONE question: How many permanent campers in you CG?
If you are "planning a destination to a specific CG" there really is NO excuse for surprises. Google earth search, AND Google map street view search and that one phone call question is all you need to insure you have a good time.
And yes, I do NOT stay at a CG if they have permanent campers. 10 years ago it would not have made a lick of difference....in today's day and age it most definitely does.:(
