Yeah, a listing in a book or a their website is not going to tell you that they are sandwiched between train tracks and a highway. I find it a blessing that long term and short term were seperated as you mentioned.
As others mentioned, research it. Especially if certain things matter. If you don't see an answer, call them and ask. Use google maps to look at the layout. Read others reviews. You might pick up on some things. If you fly by the seat of your pants, you will get snagged every now and then.
