- davprattExplorerWe love South Llano river State Park, in Junction, TX in the summer.
Lots of great trails for hiking or biking, and a super shady area between the camping area and the river for heat of the day hiking and biking.
there is a day use pool near the bridge over the river at the entrance to the park. We love to kayak upstream from there. Tubing downriver from there is fun but its not much white water tubing. If you are ther over July 4th, the town of Junction always has a good fireworks display, and if you hike up to the scenic overlook in the park, you can watch the fireworks. There is a winery in town, Don't skip the wine slushy if you go to a tasting. - MewshawManorExplorer

I took a hike with one of the rangers, and she showed us where they are building a new campsite with pull throughs and full hook ups in the prairie section of the park. Construction starts this month.
That is WONDERFUL news! - patperry2766Explorer IIHidden Lake RV Ranch, Jacksboro TX:

We are going to check out the park at Camp Wood this fall. We normally do a drive through before we plan an extended stay. One comment though, I read an internet review of the park and the latest comment was that the bathrooms weren't cleaned and the lady running the place was a grouch. As with most internet reviews, you have to take them with a grain of salt though.
It is a nice park & the lady is not very friendly or him. All I can say we enjoyed the park in October 3 years ago. It was off the path coming home from the coast to Midland and stayed 5 days. DH kayaked around the lake not to catch one fish. We had been the only campers in the park. Be sure to stock up on groceries, a small store in town or drive to Ulvade for WM or HEB. Also if you have dogs please pick up after them as they will check to see if you leave any behind. The shoreline is lined with all sort of flowers & the man is always working on it. They do have some that leave campers year round off away from the water sites. It is a very small town be sure to look it up what if offers for places to eat or shop.

We winter on South padre Is. - Bob_LandryExplorerI have found the COE parks in Texas to be a much better value than the State Parks, especially when getting half price campsites with the National Park Senior Pass. Most don't have sewer, but the storage facility where I keep my trailer has a dump station if I don't want to sit in line at the park. I did do a drive through the Inks Lake SP and it looked pretty nice. I may stay there one of these days. My favorite places within a days drive and for a long weekend are the Arkansas SPs. Pristine and a good value.Sorry, but after several trips to Jackson Hole and Southern Utah, the thrill of driving around Texas is pretty much gone.
