I've read various posts from owner's of the Boondocker converters (BFL13 where are you when we need you?) and the Mfg seems to be introducing new things to their lineup at sometimes. It may be possible that any past poor performance has been dealt with with an upgrade from the factory.
I would suggest that the best way to find out what the converter is doing is to keep it monitored with a meter and have a reference point for the batteries at full charge.
I was advised to charge my new pair to full a few times and then measure the electrolyte with a hydrometer. That develops a reference base line for battery health.
