The new paints were called 15 years paints by some. They solved that problem. Old lacquer paints and enamels just do not handle uv and heat well especially from both sides over an engine. They can match the shade ,of black you have on the rest, of the coach.I say shade of black because, if the hood, is that faded, the rest of the coach is faded to degrees. Have it sanded and prepped and repaint the hood. Once the paint starts fading that fast the only real solution is to repaint. Several coats of good clear will protect it for many years, if the base color coats are new.
There is so much new stuff, in the way of paints and uv protection it would pay to talk to a couple of dealers in automotive paints to get the est for what your ideas are on longevity and price. Ferrari and others have a clear paint that is made from what they put on sandpaper( mind is brain dead right now). It won't scratch easily. cost is way up there.
