Complete remodel of my Class C 1983 Honey

Well you have taken on quite a challenge. The answer to your question is "maybe". It depends on how extensive the damage is. You will need to strip the entire interior any where you suspect damage to really see what you have to do and formulate a plan from there. I have rebuilt a slide out corner from the inside previously but the damage was minimal and I had plenty of good framing left to patch it up and make it solid again. Protect it from weather, strip it down and take photos and some of us may be able to help

Most people will take the roof off from the top , reframe, new plywood cover, then recover the roof

But I know one person that repaired a section from the inside
He took down the inside ceiling panels, took picture of the wire routing ( goes thru holes in the trusses )
Disconnected or cut wires at the light fixtures etc..
Then cut and installed new trusses, drilled holes, and put the wire back in
Then covered with new ceiling panel
This does not replace the roof plywood or the leak that caused the problem
It does depend heavily on the type and amount of damage
But it might be easier to do than opening and maybe removing the entire roof

It does need a new roof. There is one spot right where the ceiling meets the cupboard by the cab over. I have already removed the walls to see the framing at the curve of the cab over and have removed the ceiling up to the cupboards. I can see the plywood looks great on the passenger side and once I got to where the cupboard is the plywood is black and you can stick the screw driver right threw it. My concern is if it's that bad right there I'm going to assume the walls might not be any better. Hence my plan to just hit it and see what happens. I'm just worried that I won't have much of the frame to really work with since it is 33 years old.

I'm also curious if I remove the roof (the rubber and the plywood) is it possible to rebuild the frame from the inside? Would be a lot easier if I can frame it and put up the ceiling and then go on top, lay the installation, plywood and then put the rubber roof on it.

I don't have any knowledge about your Honey but I did do a whole gut-out and restoration on my Starcraft travel trailer from the inside. The restoration thread is in my signature line, "the Cowboy/Hilton".

I had pretty much the same situation as you, leaking roof left to leak for years and frame rotting. I'm glad I tackled it the way I did and the results were great.
The added insulation and new windows made a very comfortable RV.

Alright well my new baby is at the Ford dealership getting a tune up and figuring out what is wrong with the breaks. Hopefully it doesn't cost to much lol.

I didn't take any pics before I started demo on the cab over but I have the pics the guy sent me before I bought her. It doesn't show the fake ceiling but I'll include the pics I got of the cab over as we removed it.














Those are what is kinda looked like. The only difference was the fake ceiling pained a purple color.

This is the cab over bed after removing the mattress when my daughter mentioned the sheet (previous owners left the majority of stuff in the camper) was wet as she was removing it.



This picture doesn't really show it but the plywood was literally bent about 3 to 4 inches down.


Didn't think anything of the black towel being over the window. Just figured they was blocking the light. But actually they were hiding the fact the window was missing most of the screws.


I also didn't notice due to the black towel that the idiots spray painted the window black. I got it half cleaned off before moving on to another task due to the sun (I got s sunburn working on her last weekend).


And here is where the fun began!




It was so bad my friend who was helping me litterally squeezed the water out of the instillation.






I decided to prove my feeling of a "fake" ceiling and I was right! Here is where we took off both ceilings and part of the cab over wall.





Monday I removed the swivel chairs and got my first injury lol. First thing I need to buy are some new steps!


Unfortunately the top black step is bent and while carrying things out my foot slipped. My back (near the shoulders) hit the top landing, my middle back hit the first step and my butt hit the second. I proceeded to slide down all three on my back. Today (3 days later) I'm not feeling as bad as I was. Tho I am still waiting to hear back from the doc on whether or not I've got a stress fracture on my rib. I will more than likely end up with many more injuries lol. Now im just waiting (not so) patiently for the breaks to be fixed so I can get to work on more demo!

Picking up my RV today. $523 later the brakes are all fixed and it should run like a dream! Now to get the roof fixed and I can begin the remodel of the inside.

I'd suggest to store the steps in their transportation place and use a wooden box or contrive some blocking for steps when remodeling the RV. Those metal steps are bad even entering/exiting with only a napkin in hand, not 40 lbs of plywood or a cabinet.

After I gutted my trailer and installed the new interior, I liked my wooden box so much that I did away with the steps and attached a non-slip track mat onto the box top. I use the box for storing tire items and other on-the-road tools. The box is the first thing out and last thing in when camping. No one has ever slipped when using my box step.

I plan on purchasing some new ones lol. My friend might have ones with railings in her carriage house that I can have. Which will save me some money.

I'm still trying to find a person or two around here that has possibly worked on RVs before or done anything with roofing to help me with the roof. I know I can do it; but I also don't want to screw anything up.

Angels Mama07, I admire your ambition on this project. I had a class C Motorhome that was only 2 years old and the bunk looked almost as bad as yours!! While the paneling is off, you can watch where the water is comming in. I would pull the front clearance lights off and replace them. The window up front and the side ones should also be removed and new butyle tape put under them. Clean the area good before replacing them and never use silicone caulk. These are the biggest problem areas, even in newer units. Next big problem areas are from the roof line where the rubber roof meets the metal, and along the top and sides over the front and under the cab. That trim piece can leak also, take a few screws loose and if they are rusty, it has been leaking. If you have to, run a hose or pressure washer on the outside to find the leaks. If you can keep it covered while you are working on it, it may be benafical to you. Good luck and I hope your back side is O K. Please be careful especially when working on the overhead.
