I replaced our rear vent with a fantastic fan. In removing the old it was not bedded in Dicor, the Dicor was flowed around the edge and over all screw heads. That the same way I replaced it.
I like good seals and something easy to inspect, tape can have all kinds of issues once applied, and looks like CR** when used around vents and skylights. Done correctly Dicor self-leveling sealant will do the job correctly.
