Fabricating steps for slide-in when towing trailer?

I need to fabricate some type of steps to enter and exit the camper while an enclosed, v-nose trailer is attached to the truck. Just wondering if anyone here has come up with something similar?
The truck is a 2015 Ram 3500 4X4, so the bottom of the camper door will be about 46 inches above ground. The v-nose doesn't leave a lot of trailer tongue.
I'm thinking of something that attaches to the bottom of the camper that can fold up against the rear of the camper so it will not interfere with turning the trailer.
I'm a retired metal fabricator, so I'm think aluminum.
Any ideas, pictures of existing?
Thanks.

  • I'm going to suggest doing what I did: lengthen your trailer tongue.
That eliminated the need for a crazy hitch extension (something I believe is a horrible idea for several good reasons) and gives me room for getting in and out of my camper.
It tows better too. Since you're a metal fab guy, I'm sure you can handle it!
  • Probably have already checked but take a look and search in the TC forum. Seen lots of mods for that problem myself

  • I made this 3 step unit and used it for years. The top step hinged back against the trailer when traveling. The top step rested on top of the trailer crank when in use.
