Induction cook tops instead of gas

I think if I were going to lose the stove top, I would replace the entire counter top with Corion or something similar. New sink, etc.

I don't think the conversion would be that hard, but I have a full shop to work with. Capping off the propane to the existing unit shouldn't be a big deal I don't think, and it would be there if you wanted to revert back later.

The woodworking doesn't sound that difficult, but I don't know exactly what you're starting with. Can you post some pictures of the existing cabinet, countertop, etc? It might help me have ideas. I recently remodeled our entire class B, so none of this seems that difficult anymore. (Remodel is on the blog, in my signature.)

I'm very interested in ditching the propane on our next coach, so I'm interested in how this turns out. Love to help if I can.

Hershey, neat idea. My first thought though is power. The temptation to use the micro and both induction plates at the same time will be like torture for your wife. I have your same model 30 amp coach and I struggle with power all the time. I have converted my coach to 50 amp but the focus for that was both ac to run, I could see there a 50 amp conversion with a focus on power to the cook center would work great too. If your question was looking for carpentry ideas I can't help. Good luck. We have a nuwave and no counter top space to put it so your built it would br great.

I would think doing something like this on could be a downside when it comes to resale value since you have further limited the usability of the already generally reduced cooking features with so many units now only coming with a microwave for an oven.

I think gas is still the way to go for cooking in an RV and I guarantee you food won't take any different in stove top cooking regardless of the method of heating.

i just got my new induction range. Pulling the propane one out and replacing it. Can not wait.

The DW has been using an portable Induction single burner unit for about 3-4 years. She liked it so much the stick house got a full size 4 burner unit. Last year we got a new MH and the gas stove have never been used, she only uses the Induction cooktop.

One of my next projects is to remove the gas cooktop and replace it with a two burner 120v Induction unit. Our counter tops are "solid surface" and I haven't decided exactly how I will do the change yet. I would like to be able to re-install the gas unit if needed.

We have a portable single burner induction unit in the van and also a four-burner cooktop in the stick house.

The portable feature of the van unit is great for picnic table use to keep heat out of the rv. And nothing beats mag units when a warmer is needed.

The drawback to the 110v units is their relatively low btu equivalence. They do transfer almost twice the heat into the pan compared to propane but the 1500w units are still slower than propane. We have twin 15k btu burners on the outside campstove and that plus the BabyQ grill are a good complement to one or two mag burners. The microwave also displaces some burner needs---its even easier to clean than the mag burner.

OTOH, our stick house cooktop is 240v and lots of amps. So 50a shore power can match the propane btus if that is your goal. Consumer's Reports always gives top ratings to the spendy mag induction house units they review.

Pianotuna, I'm with you all the way! I have one in my kitchen and one in the MH. The one in my kitchen sit atop a new $1500 range which is now the induction stand.
