- Tin_PusherExplorer IIMPI_Mallard, thanks, I'll take a look.
Merry Christmas to all :) - MPI_MallardExplorerYou might want to check out the JBL Charge 3 blue-tooth speaker, great sound, terrific battery life, water proof, we use it on the beach, the pool, in the golf cart, around the campfire, on the boat, it's a real good rugged unit.
- Tin_PusherExplorer III dunno about fishing any wire, was hoping to avoid that:R
As for signal, I plan to get it from the campers' built in CD / radio. My wife found a Bluetooth transmitter that plugs in to the player / radio. To my amazement it transmits THRU the aluminum. I woulda guessed no. The transmitter also uses a rechargeable battery so, stuck w/ that, I guess. I also can use a Kindle as a source.
More I think about it, I will usually want to sit under the awning and having the speaker overhead is not ideal. Better to set it off, facing the camper I guess. Like I said, I guess I need to experiment with a standalone for a while.
Charger rant: Why ain't these things more standardized? We got two phones, a weather radio, the BT transmitter, the Kindle and who knows what's next. No two of 'em can use any one charger (where is that head bangin smiley?). - goducks10ExplorerWe use one of these and listen to Pandora or my music on my phone. We also listen to the 5er speakers but they're up high so the sound travels. It's fine during noisy times like dinner time. But later in the evening when things are quiet we break out the Flip if we want some music. I was quite surprised at how good the sound is from it.

You may be able to buy a bluetooth speaker with 12v power needed. That would just need a cord connection to either recharge or play without separate batteries.
westend, I hadn't thought about the elevated location affecting the audio quality, good point.
I know there are all kinds of Bluetooth speakers out there and for less money. I like that the King has the permanent 12V connection, no need to charge it, and that it is attached, no set up.
I may buy something less expensive to "experiment" with.
Not looking to annoy the neighbors, just would like to sit out front and listen to a CD now and then :)
If you plan to get the music signal from your RV's player/radio and are able to fish some wire, there are many good choices out there for conventional, non-bluetooth speakers.
If you choose a conventional speaker with the newer neodymium magnet, mounting is fairly easy since the depth is small. A mounting bracket or baffle can be used to mount to the side of the RV with a very small exit hole for the wire.
Alternatively, the signal wire can be terminated with a jack on the exterior and a stand alone speaker box with connector could be used to locate the speaker anywhere you wish.
Coincidentally, I'm now in the process of my final design and implementation of a small boombox that can be attached to bike handle bars or used remotely. The boombox can be fitted with accessories like phone holders for bluetooth selectivity, mirrors, lights, camera, etc. I have chosen the speakers for this and these small Faital 3EF20 proved to have good sound and met the requirements of the bike boom box. They are waterproof and sound is amazing for their size. - Tin_PusherExplorer IIwestend, I hadn't thought about the elevated location affecting the audio quality, good point.

When our outside mounted speakers started sounding bad we went with the portable BLUETHOOTH speakers from WALMART ($50)... They sound great all around the patio area while we are sitting around the firepit. Being wireless and portable we can set the speaker back inside the RV when want to leave the area to do something...
In my case I was also able to plug-in my two way radio monitors and be able to listen to them outside.
I haven't totally played with the wireless Bluetooth speakers yet but I also think this will allow my truck Sirius Radio using Bluetooth from the truck sound setup...
Roy Ken - colliehaulerExplorer IIII wonder about the sound quality.
- The_real_wild1ExplorerInteresting idea. I was thinking for that price just get a Bose speaker but it is a good concept.
- westendExplorerTin,
I don't own one so can't say on the reliability. I do mess around with sound a bit and one thing stands out to me, if mounted at typical outside light location (elevated), the audio presentation will not be very good.
I've seen where others use a portable bluetooth speaker and like them. That is even less work/expense than replacing an existing light fixture and a user can choose the speaker's location.
