Good suggestions. I was going to explore increasing the thickness of the mounting surface so as to use longer screws. Was planning a swing-out arm but my dealer is worried that pulling the screen out may over-stress the single-point pin that allows the mirror/TV to pivot around. Think I'll stick to the fixed mount.
Mor/Ryde makes several articulating mounts with a locking T-handle. The one in this photo is good for 35 lbs. We have one in our TT's bedroom and I like it.
We have a factory installed locking mount in our TT that requires you to push the TV against the wall to lock it. It leaves fingerprints all over the screen and I don't like the way you have to yank on the TV to get it to let go.
Some of the newer TVs are feather light. Our 32" Sansui TV weighs next to nothing. The factory installed articulating mount is mounted with just a few #8 screws into the wall. There will be either a plywood or sheet metal backer behind the luan. No need for HD lag bolts. If you think you have a metal backer, use a magnet to find the outer edges.
Is this a metal or fiberglass TT and is it going on an interior or exterior wall? If you have studs, you can always surface mount a backer piece of some sort to the studs.
