My CRT TV to Flat Screen TV Project

Ok, I had a 20 inch CRT TV in the bedroom I am changing over due to a power issue at Lazys Days Campground blew out both my TV's. My old CRV TV in the photo below was very large for a small screen and very heavy. It was held in this large box.

The Flat Screen TV I got is a 26 inch to fill the amount of room the width of the box is. I did not want to remove the old box due to molding being cut to accommodate it and I did want to be able to use the space behind the TV so I figured I would hinge the new TV.

Now I need to find a good source for some gas shocks to hold this thing in the open position. And I need a way to keep it closed going down the road. I have looked at several option but dont want it to be a pain to use.

I plan on doing the same with my front TV. I had a 24 inch and I have a 42 inch being delivered this week. I am having a hard time finding a piano hinge big enough to hold the 32 lbs TV and the wood I will mount it to.

  • Go to your RV supply and get the same type cabinet latches that are on your other cabinets and drawers. Most of these are locking types that will not open until they are pulled. The Lifts can be picked up at an auto parts place. See what they have, and get the length you need.
