Need a light DIY snowplow for boondocking -- ideas?
So this is one of those "be careful what you wish for" moments. We solved the problem of freezing water lines with a primitive hot water recirculation hose. Now, there is no reason to avoid snow boondocking ("snowdocking?") -- we like snow-shoeing in remote areas. And there are forest roads in the Eastern Sierra that are not gated during the winter, unlike the Western Sierra.
There are two problems, of course -- getting in and getting out of boondocking campsites in snow country. (Let's assume that we will carefully monitor the weather and will not get trapped by a huge snowfall -- yes, that is a risk, but it can be mitigated by the exercise of caution.)
I have seen big heavy expensive plow attachments, but this is something that I want to carry in the bed of my truck for possible use, once in a while. I don't mind something that is "too small" for the job -- I don't need to clear an eight foot roadway all at once. I am envisioning something about three or four feet long that attaches to my hitch receiver, in the back of the truck. Putting the truck in reverse, I would carefully plow just enough of the roadway to get to the campsite, probably within a hundred yards of a paved and plowed road.
That is my goal -- but before I try to invent this device, I am hoping that someone else has already done so!
I look forward to your suggestions and comments. (And no, staying home and watching TV until the snow melts is not a good option, unless I have no other choice. ;) )
