I was out at the dealers lot yesterday and was talking to the parts guy and was voicing my concern of the way I have to reach up when in bed to turn on a light when I have to get up in the middle of the night. I showed me a light called the night minder. It is a motion sensor light with LED bulbs, model number NM-MOTION-011. You can stick it to a cabinet on the other side of the room or any place you want, even screw the base down if you want. three way switch and auto turn off if no motion detected. cost about $10, this is a answer to my prayers. Not a great big bright light but enough to get out of bed and not stumble around trying to get to the bathroom.

Unless you move around a lot in your sleep (or your cat or dog or spouse moves around).A simple battery operated puck light placed near the head of your bed would be just as effective without the potential for going off unnecessarily.

That's an alternative solution to keeping a small led flashlight next to the bed, which is what I do.

Just to throw out a few other options:1) when plugged: in I have a LED nightlight from the Dollar Store plugged into the bathroom GFI plug.2) when boondocking: I have the glowing light sticks that you crack and shake and hang a couple of them in strategic locations.

Not a bad idea for some situations. I would like something like a motion sensor light for my steps on the 5er. I often go out at dusk and forget to turn on the outside light or carry a flashlight. I come back after dark and wind up using my cell phone as a flashlight-if I remember to carry the cell. Inside the RV I have a night light in the bathroom and the door has a 1 inch gap at the bottom so the night light floods the floor and there is no need for any other light.

It lights up when someone is about 10 feet away and stays lit for about 30 seconds unless there is more motion. It gives a nice white light that lights up the stepsl and a small area around the steps. It is adjustable so you can aim the light where you want it. Very nice for the price.Barney

For our nightlight I used one of these:

Mounted inside the existing bathroom light fixture, spliced into power there and drilled a hole for a small switch on the side. Just one is plenty bright, takes next to no power, they run off of 12v and have an adhesive backing. Available in red too if that's your fancy.

If you really want to be slick replace the fixture's switch with a double position one so one way is night light, other regular light, center off.

One of the two light bulbs in the bathroom is now a red LED bulb. We just leave it on at night. Plenty of light comes over/under the door to navigate around in the RV without being bright enough to disturb sleep.

I have used a solar powered light. I put it outside during the day to charge it up and bring it inside at night.

Now that is brilliant! Red makes perfect sense for this type of situation.

For those of us with kids in tow, well not technically in tow as they are allowed in the MH. I purchased two red LED marker lights at Harbor Freight for four bucks each, placed next to and wired it to a light. One in the kitchen area and one in the bathroom. I installed a switch on the light and wired it to the LED, this way at bedtime, I can leave the nightlight on, so if they wake up in the middle of the night it is not pitch black. The lights only draw about 0.8 amps so when boondocking it works great. I'll try to post a pic if I can.

I checked these out on Amazon. The people that are complaining about the batteries and white acid, IT's the batteries that are leaking. Today it is just about impossible to buy a battery that doesn't leak. Ray O Vac batteries used to be notorious for leakage but it looks like the last couple of years the other manufacturers have caught up to the bad sealing issues of Ray O vac.

Not sure I'd put it in my camper, since it is only A/C, but I might get some for the house!

I don't think I've ever camped on battery alone.....I'm either on shore power or generator. I can see how people that do boondock on just batteries might not see the use of those in a camper though.
