Replacing Awning Fabric that has Alumiguard Cover - DIY

Our 16 year old awning is in need of being replaced and we have decided to take the route to do it our self. After watching about 20 you tube videos, this doesn't seem like it will be a difficult task...

Based on personal experience, I would ditch the alumigard shield and go with straight vinyl. I thought I was in hog heaven when we had to instal a new awning due to an accident. It was a horrible mistake. Offered no added protection, was a pain to roll in and out. Never worked right. Always wished I had kept the old style.
