When I bought my trailer, the microwave was dirty. It was in fact rusty.I hardly ever use a microwave in the first place, so, I had a thought.I am going to remove it and put in a cupboard.Anyone ever remove one? Are they hard wired or is there a plug in?

If no cabinet above, check cabinet that is next to it.

This should be a very simple modification. I did something even more extensive when I pulled out an oversized refrigerator and replaced it with something smaller. I put a cabinet on top. It was a simple job to make cabinet doors and stain them to match the rest of the woodwork. I have been tempted to remove our microwave. We rarely have hook ups and rarely use our generator so the microwave has only been used a very few times. Basically we use it for storing larger pots and pans. They rattle so we stuff in dish towels. A cabinet would work a lot better.

I just removed ours last week after realizing we haven't used it in 4 years of camping. The storage space gained was almost twice the size of the MW. I did add a shelf but haven't had a chance to get a couple of doors yet. When the time comes to sell the trailer the MW can be reinstalled in under 5 minutes if the next owner desires.

I have removed the microwave. It was as easy as removing 6 screws, sliding it out, then unplugging it.

Eventually, it will become a cupboard.

To make other use of the microwave that I use 4-5 times a week, I bought a platter to fit and store bread in there. If I use the microwave, I just lift out the platter with one motion.

I'm not worth a darn at finding a post and placing it on this thread, but I did this same thing with new microwave in our new trailer. I contacted the dealer I bought the trailer from and ordered a cabinet door that matched and it looks sweet! If you do a search and type in "the amazing coffee cabinet" the post will come up that I did. I also did a post in the 'Mods" forum but haven't been able to find it. We never once used the micro in our older trailer and never used this one, so we yanked it and added a huge amount of storage devoted entirely to a great cup of coffee!

OP here.

The place where the microwave is also has a shelf and the radio. There is no cabinets up there. It looks like it is screwed in on the face.

From what everyone is saying, it should be a simple switch out.
