Toilet shut off

Would like to install a in-line shut off valve for the toilet and a winterizing kit in my pump feed line .
The camper uses PEX tubing as its new.
Anyone know how to measure the tubing to determine its size? I'm guessing its like other tubing and goes by the inner diameter and I'd rather not have to cut it and then order fittings.
Can barbed fittings be used with a hose clamp?
Thanks,Mike

  • My trailer came with 1/2 inch ID PEX and flair-it fittings. I have made a few plumbing mods and love the ease of use of the flair-it valves and fittings. I added a 1/2 flair-it valve to my toilet supply line. The toilet flush valve leaked and I wanted to be able to isolate the toilet in the future if there was ever another leak.

Because you can not tighten the hose clamp enough to seal the PEX.

Shakbite (Home Depot) or Gatorbite (Lowes).....just cut PEX into clean straight cut then the 'bites' just push on...done

Next best choice would be Flair-IT fittings

    PEX in RVs is 1/2"

If you use fuel injection hose clamps you can make it work. That's only if the other (better) option of crimp rings and tool is unavailable. Sharkbite is also a great option.
  • Could you please explain why you suggest that using Shark Bite fittings would not be "done right" ???

. You can get a shark bite shut off valve the quick easy way or do it right get a 1/2" pex stop and use the pex crimp bands the stainless steel ones or copper the tools are cheap and then its done right.

Its 1/2" PEX and No Dont use hose clamps and barb fittings.

    Why?
  • I haven't done it, but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who wants a shut off for their toilets. This spring, when I head a leaky water valve in my toilet, I had to shut off water to the whole camper because of it.
  • I also used flair it parts when I replaced my toilet. Very simple to use.
