- jmac2009ExplorerThe Ram uses the Husky 5th wheel hitch. Having mine install Friday. A 16k slider installed for $1495.
- tinner12002ExplorerI actually have the gooseneck hitch that cam-locks into the same frame the 5ver hitch locks into. 5 min switch over. Great setup in my opinion!

DUMB. Doesn't it seem like they could have struck a deal with one of the major hitch manufacturers like Ford did and pre-drill the holes to fit a specific hitch package?
The picture frame adapter allows one to use a variety of different hitches..The picture frame adapter mounts into the bed of the truck and my 20K Reese Signature hitch locked into it. There are quite a few different hitches one can use on the adapter.
But it was dumb on Ram's part to NOT have the picture frame adapter available when the trucks came out....I got my truck in May and no adapter until July....Chrysler made it right for me though by giving me a Chrysler Max Car care extended warranty of 7 yrs, 100,000 miles, zero deductible and I paid about 1/2 of what MOPAR is charging for the adapter, so what Chrysler did for me for the inconvenience, to me, made up for their dropping the ball on this 5er/GN prep package.
I have a reese elite hitch...just by looking at it, doesn't it hook up the same way as it has the cam locks also? I didn't do any measuring but the dodge setup looks like it is the same as my elite setup. - NC_HaulerExplorer

I don't follow what you're saying about the picture frame adapter...The picture frame adapter offered by Reese, as well as MOPAR mounts in the 4 holes that are provided by the 5er/GN prep package...and that is specifically to mount a 5th wheel hitch to. My picture frame adapter mounts into 4 lock down holes in bed of truck, built into the frame, My 5er hitch mounts to the picture frame adapter, (picture frame adapter is what MOPAR calls it, a picture of it, though made by Reese, was offered by another poster on this thread.
Ooooops... my mistake, you're right. My RAM doesn't have the 5th/GN prep, so it doesn't have the four prep holes in the bed. If you look up under my truck bed, where the prep would be for the gooseneck is a thick metal plate welded to and spanning the frame rails. It has a large hole in the center and four smaller holes around the center hole. I thought this is what was being called the picture frame adapter.
When I was researching hitches for the truck, I didn't want a gooseneck adapter type hitch and Curt was the only manufacturer who offered a "no drill" kit that provides standard wide rails. Reese was working on one, but it had not made it to market yet. More options now.
I got you, I know what you're talking about now...:) - Hiking_HunterExplorer

Good deal...as I stated earlier, I knew there were several that were making hitches with longer, wider legs made onto the hitch, which fit perfectly, and lock down into the 5er/GN prep package. - gtsumExplorerI posted on the cummins site as I am getting ready to order a 2014 3500 and it sounds like there are a couple companies making (or in the process of) a drop in hitch....
- ChooChooMan74ExplorerWhere can you get a DODGE Ram? I thought Dodge is not a truck company any longer.

I have a 2013 which has the same frame as the 2014. Curt does make a "no drill" kit for a fifth wheel hitch that uses many of the existing holes in the frame. The rest of the mounts are brackets around the frame members, but are captive so they are secure. I put one in mine - works fine, relatively easy to install. The parts fit well.
The "picture frame" plate that is part of the RAM frame would work well for a goose neck, but would not work well for a fifth wheel mount.
Call Curt, they can provide all the proper part numbers for you to provide to your reseller.
Actually, if you look at the Andersen Ultimate 5th wheel hitch, you'll see it works with the center hole of the 5er/GN prep package for Ram...There are more than several that use this set up on the cummins forum...
