- JIMNLINExplorer IIIJaw thickness has zero to do with high pinning a hitch. Hell even one of SAF-Holland 150k 5th wheel hitches on big rigs can be high pinned.
I see Curt 5th wheel hitch mentioned more than any hitch brand as the hitch of choice on a couple of LTL haulers forums I frequent. - larry_barnhartExplorerNo danger of high hitching if you are watching how it is for the correct entry to the hitch .

They have a king pin mocked up in the jaws. This is a Q24 but the Q20 looks the same...
As you can see the view is very clear to see if the Jaws are wrapped around the pin.
Thanks!

Now someone please show the same shot with a B&W and you will see the jaws are twice as thick. The thicker jaws make it less likely to high hitch also if it's dark and someone is not looking closely.
Not saying the Curt is a bad hitch just want people to really compare before buying. - jerem0621Explorer IIHere is a picture I snagged off of etrailer.com...

How good are the Curt 5th wheel hitches?
Compare one side by side with a B&W then decide.
They are very good. Even up against the B&W. Very secure and easy to see if the pin is secure.
Thanks!

Yup, very happy with my Curt Q20 - John_BridgeExplorerI'm in my 7th year with the Curt Q5. The only problems I've had result from not lubing as often as I should. :)
- LoubaExplorerIt's the only fiver hitch I've had but I'm happy with it. The head can be removed from the base to ease removal. If you plan to get one check out the price on Amazon. I got mine there and then had the dealer install it for me.
- vietvet66-67ExplorerI've had mine for 2 years and LOVE it. Great hitch for the money. Good positive locking jaws, and not much looseness at all.
- rastonExplorerI've got the 20K with slider. Have used it 2 seasons so far and just put it back in the truck last week for this up-coming season. The head is a one person lift, but the body and slider is a two person job, at least for me it is :) So I get my son in-law to help since I store it for the winter in his garage anyway.
I think it's a great hitch. Very positive lock-up and easy to to visually check when it is locked up. Have found it smooth on the road (ie: no chucking) except in some really nasty spots that I'm sure would shake anybody's setup.
As far as the slider goes, I use it occasionally... rather be safe than sorry kind of approach. I pull a 2005 Travelaire (9500 lbs) and it isn't as 'contoured' on the front corners as some of the newer models seem to be.
Highly recommend the Curt.
