2nd AC

If unit does not come with 2nd ac in bedroom, does it need to be framed from factory and prewired. Or can unit be put there with little effort.?

If it's not pre-framed and wired it's going to be a lot of effort. My 5er has a 50 amp service. In the front bunk area there is a roof vent with a junction box right beside it. There is a label on the box cover plate that states it has wiring for a 2nd AC unit.

If that wiring weren't there it would be really tough to get a line pulled to power the unit.

My sister has a 35 ft. 5th wheel and she's having this one installed Atwood 15026 Air Command 15,000 BTU Air Conditioner Non-Ducted with Heat Pump in her kitchen area where the fan is located. The ducted air conditioner is not keeping up when the temperature when its over 100 degrees outside. She blames it on the high ceilings.
We have the same air conditioner in our motorhome. We run the basement air and the Atwood at the same time. This air conditioner can be plugged into a 30 amp circuit.

I have the ducted version of that one and love it. For others that may be thinking about this unit, be aware that there is another component in addition to the unit linked to above. You also need the ceiling assembly to go in the ceiling that includes the thermostat and air controls. This increases the cost by about $100.

  • I am going to assume you have a 50 amp fiver. If it's 30 amps it probably a no go to add 2nd AC. If 50 amp, BB_TX above is probably right on.

since you are having one ordered. Order it with the second AC to start with. It can always be used. Get at least a 13.5 one.

    This is critical!
If you dont get it with the ability to add a second AC then there may be things in the way of the AC unit top side.

  • All depends on your rig. I think most will accept a 2nd A/C to be installed in place of the skylight/vent in the bedroom. Mine was also prewired for one. If you have an electrical type cover plate beside the bedroom skylight then it is probably prewired.
