Even though many respectable manufacturers have shut their doors such as Citation, Hitch Hiker, Carriage, Alpenlite and Okanagon I believe there are manufacturers building trailers that are of better quality. For instance I would much rather have a new New Horizon as opposed to an old Alpenlite.
The New Horizons was one of the unit’s ( manufactured today) to which I was referring!
Other than New Horizons there likely isn't anything that's going to out do Teton for quality .... Does DRV cut it?
This is my opinion only, and I do not want to offend! I think that they “were” one of the best....after the collapse of the top quality manufacturers during the last decade. However, with their recent merge/buyout....I have serious reservations of their present and future quality. Though they are “much” better than most out there!
We had a 2001 Teton ( one of the lower end units), and we wanted a newer 5er, with some of the newer “bells and whistles”. We thought that DRV (pre-buyout) was the answer. Went all the way ( approx. 2500 miles round trip)to a Chicago suburb, to purchase a “very” lightly used ‘07, Mobile Suites. We were pretty disappointed! The quality of the cabinetry, the quality and weight (thickness) of carpet, really disappointed the wife. I was too busy “drooling” over the auto-leveling, hydraulic disc-brakes, etc. to observe the inside stuff closely. When she pointed out these details ( she has a much better eye than I), and some other small stuff....our low-end 2001 Teton looked “pretty darn good”!
Sooo, we were down to “only” considering Teton’s and Hew Horizons. We feel “very” fortunate to has found our present (2004) Teton.
Teton was not perfect....they had some issues as well. The most notable (to our knowledge) was a year of so of having “improper” j-channel ( I think that is the proper term) on the slides. It would trap water, causing water damage to the slide floor! We went all the way to Galveston,Tx.to look at , what appeared to be a beautiful Teton Grand. This is when we found out about the problem.... in our searches we found several with this issue! All where 2003’s! Don’t know if it was all 2003’s or just the ones we were interested in!
Though we’ve never owned one.....I wouldn’t count out an Excel. They are also out of business....but (as I understand it) some of the employees formed a company to service the Excel’s. So....there is still some factory knowledged folks out there to work on them!
A couple of weeks ago, the wife was “window shopping” (we can’t break the looking addiction) the RV sales websites and found 19 Tetons for sale ( some were mid to late ‘90’s to ‘07). Some had very good prices, but there quality was unknown!
