Add cables for ramp deck??

My 2011 Voltage 3950 was the first year for the model and didn't come with support for a ramp deck. Thinking about adding that.

I can imagine drilling holes for eye bolts and making up cables with turnbuckles.

Anybody have other thoughts / suggestions?

I made cables for our Raptor, it was great if we backed up to river but we didn't use them often. I can probably find the photos still if you want.
I would be interested to see the photos please.

Using two jack stands as supports would be simple and solid.

Toy hauler ramps typically sit 2' or more off the ground. I've yet to see a set of jack stands that tall, and if they do exist, I sure wouldn't want to tote something around that heavy.
Yeah, mine's about 4' feet in the air at the moment. Don't think jack stands will be much use.

I did see another Toy Hauler about year a go with a unique setup. He had two points that the cable attached to on the door, a second cable was attached to the frame and then hooked with a Heavy Duty Aluminium Carabiner. He felt this method distributed better over four points on the door instead of two.
  • Personally I like the cable idea, but if I were actually going to do it, I would also go with the jackstands. They just seem like they would put less stress on the frame and cable ramp attachments. It probably wouldn't be an issue, but some of these things are only made as strong as they need to be, and not much room for extra stress. Heck, some people have complained about their ramps/doors breaking down just from using them as a ramp.

  • I did it for my Rage'n, used them once. The kid I sold it to improved on it by tapping in to the upper frame and uses them all the time says they work great. The point being if there aren't engineered points of connection then you want to make the cables as long as possible.
