Hi all I have a 2011 Jayco Eagle RTLS my air conditionaer is leaking inside the RV. I have had it cleaned out on top twice so that is not the problem. thye RV place says well it could be the gasket and that is not covered on extended warranty so of course it will be a service call (I am not able to take it in) then cost of the gasket $40. then labor $121. per hr that is if it is the gasket...I have asked several times well where is the gasket because I do not see any gasket...Question isn't the gasket between the cover on the top or where unit attaches to the top and the roof? So at first it was just the AC in liv room today I discover now the AC in bedroom above bed has been leaking I believe just today as the mattress is we,t sheet, comforter.Has anyone here ever replaced a gasket on one of these things? I was on the roof myself I am single woman on my own out here trying to do this stuff myself...I took pic of model number etc I will call the RV place again tomorrow but if this is something I could buy gasket and replace myself I would rather.... any help or insight would be appreciated.Thanks in advance... A/C Unit hold down bolts might need SNUGGING up.....have to remove ceiling grill assembly then tighten the 4 bolts ....they hold the unit on the roof and compress the roof gasket to seal the opening A/C sits in.SNUG means just tighten a 'little bit' after finger tighteningIF tightened too much the drip pan drain holes can be blocked cause gasket is crushed and pan is sitting on roof (should be roughly a 'finger gap' between bottom of A/C pan and roofTo replace a roof gasket the A/C Unit 120VAC and 12VDC Power has to be disconnected, the hold down bolts removed and the WHOLE A/C Unit lifted up out of roof opening....moved out of the way---old gasket removed/new gasket installed/Unit lifted up and set back down into roof opening---hold down bolts tightened compressing gasket by 1/2" and 120VAC/12VDC Power reconnected

This is mostly done from inside the RV looking up. You have to remove the vent cover of the AC and pull it down. Then look up in the hole at the edges and you can see the foam gasket. The gasket should be about 1/2 inch thick or more. If it's tightened down too tight it can cause a leak.To tighten the gasket just tighten the 4 bolts you see when looking up. But again don't overtighten them, If they are already more than finger tight I would say no more than one half to one full turn of each bolt.To replace the gasket you have to disconnect the electrical. Then remove the 4 bolts from the inside. Now go up on the roof and lift the AC up and out of the hole. Have a sheet of plywood or something to set the AC on so you don't tear the rubber roof. replace the gasket and put the AC back over the hole. Tighten the gasket down about half way. As with most things these days there are a bunch of youtube videos on how to do the job.

I know you said you can't take it anywhere, but if you could, take it to Shipshewana, Indiana, to National Refrigeration. Leon is a young Amish man who works on RV refrigerators and A/C's. I guarantee he will accurately diagnose the problem and fix it. He charges $80/hr, but if he doesn't work an hour, he prorates it. Dale

Just a voice of encouragement, Deb. You can definitely do a check of the gasket as mentioned above and the proper tightening of the 4 bolts. If you can grab someone's help a moment to lift the AC out (assuming a bad gasket), you could do the whole thing. It's nearly impossible to find help with RV repairs these days. I understand your frustration. You've got this. .

Hi...thanks for info the bolts were the first thing I checked they did not seem to be loose at all they AC in liv room anyway. I just checked by fingers. I do not know how they could come loose or tighten as I have been sitting in the same spot for 3 yrs.:?I will check in bdrm this morning.When neighbor got on top and cleaned out for second time looking to see if he could find where drain hole was or where water comes from he was scrapping out under the cover also and if that is where the gasket is he probably destroyed anything that was left it was grey crumbly?I managed to get on top of roof after as someone else had mentioned the weep hole in drain pan could be clogged although I could not see that as it is probably inside that elec. housing and I was not going to mess with that and it wasn't disconnected from elec.I will look on you tube also and lookup the gasket so I know WTH I am looking for...

I had leaking on one of my fiftg wheels, it turned out to be the weep hols were clogged.. each AC has 4 weep/drain holes in the corners to allow the condensation to drain onto the roof then to the ground. If they are clogged, there will be nowufor the moiuto go

THe a/c vibrating could loosen bolts over a long period of time.

The secondary thing you could do is next time someone gets on this forum asking if extended warranties are worth it; tell them your story. I also fell for the extended warranty sale and luckily was able to get a refund after just a few months when I had an issue and they found a reason to deny the claim. Good luck on finding your leak.

call a mobil rv tech in your area and ask if they work on your problem. either the gaskets are shot? or your drains are not working. and do it soon that water could be rotting your wood.

Ok I do not get it...trying to check it this morning now it is not leaking at all???
