Good catch and just in time.
Its been my experience with ST tires when one fails like that one did the others are just down the road. Watch the others for those bulges at each stop.

The ST225/75-15 D 2540 lbs are approx 28.3" diameter.
LT225/75-16 E 2680 lbs are approx 29.2" diameter which will be approx 1" smaller tire gap from your present 2.5".
