Another "am I overloaded" thread

Wife and I found a 5er we really like. Keystone Hideout 315RDTS. I would like to hear some real world examples from people who tow something similar to this with the same type of TV as mine. Any issues towing, did you do any upgrades such as air bags? This would probably put me a little over on Tow vehicle GVWR, but under on GCWR and axle ratings.

RV specs:
empty weight - 9450
GVWR - 11855
empty pin weight - 1695

Tow vehicle - 2016 Ford f250 crew cab 4X4 diesel, short bed
GVWR - 10,000
Front GAWR - 5200
Rear GAWR - 6100
Tire weight rating - 3750 each
Truck empty weight - ???? I have heard anywhere from 6800 - 8000 lbs but I have not had a chance to stop at any scales yet.
  • Yup, me too.

Don't exceed axle and tire ratings. Don't exceed your CGWR. With airbags, I'm not sweating my GVWR.
  • That 5er is not a heck of a lot more that my TT. You'll be Ok. I'm looking a 5er MUCH larger than that to tow with my 2500.
  • Your 16 250 will handle that FW easily. Yes, fully loaded, ready to camp, you may be some over GVWR, due to the heavy diesel over your front axle. You will have room for pin wt/hitch wt, on the rear axle. You have 350 tires/wheels on your 250. You likely won't even need air bags to level truck, to carry 2K lbs of pin wt. Most all FW pin wt is carried by the rear axle. Your front axle should only see 100 lbs, or less, from adding pin wt/hitch wt.

My 250, with HD service suspension, does not have a noticeable squat when I'm hooked up, ready to travel.

I tow 14K 5th wheel....am over GVWR few hundred lbs, right at RAWR/Rear tire Max Load Ratings

That trailer's GVWR is 2000# LESS then actual scaled weight of my 5vr

    You will be just fine......
Might be close to RAWR but OK

His truck is most likely a lot heavier than yours, which eats into GVWR.

I tow a 11200 lb 5th wheel trailer with a 2500 Dodge/Cummins. I'm 200-300 lbs over GVWR but the trucks 6000 rawr comes in at 5200-5400 lbs depending on how much we load the rig.
I added super springs to the rear of this truck as it has no upper overload spring pack. Don't add anything till you load the rig and make a short trip. Then is the time to decide if bags are needed.

The truck won't have any issues towing that size trailer.

For OPs info........Your trucks GVWR is 9000#

  • Other than being over the TV 10K GVWR by around 1,000, you should be fine. With a hitch and a few other things your truck will be over 8500 lbs ready to tow. Our SRW RAM 3500 is in the 8700-8900 range ready to tow with a manual slider. You will be close to the 6100 RGAWR.
  • I would guess with that new of a truck, you will be OK. Weigh you truck, and check the weight sticked on the door.
