If it's rated to 65mph it's the same as almost every ST tire on the market... even if it is indeed 8". Propaganda? LOL. People need to calm down. You'd think they were curing cancer with how fired up they get about a product that they aren't even using. Swivel Wheel has been around for a long time. Lots of units sold. No reports of failure or jail time for the offending owners. RELAX everyone. If it's not for you, don't use it. If it works, then do. But really, this site is full of stroke victims waiting for it to happen with the high blood pressure you all get over other people's setups. The longer I'm on this site, the more I realize that people here have morphed from trying to help other RVers into taking great pleasure in shooting down other's setups. From the weight police to the swivel police to every other thing you all condemn as dangerous and illegal. Really. It's getting old.
You win for this post. SPOT ON!!!! - RV_daytraderExplorer

I took the drawings, weight calcs and lengths to my local Highway Patrol headquarters. The head officer there gave it his blessing. When it was finished and all axxles weighed, I returned to the same CHP office with the rig and again got their OK. It is an attachment to the trailer!
Any of you see the Tag axles that lower and take weight off the load on 10 wheel dump trucks and transit mixers. This application is exactly the same thing. An extra axle that is permanently attached and bears part of the load.
The dump truck tag axle is *not* a good comparison.
The dump truck driver has (must have) a Commercial Class A or B DL - whether tag or tandem.
You would need the same - Class A - (maybe an Non-commercial class A would do) for a double tow in CA.
Regarding an RV & the CHP......
Same as registering an HDT as a Motor Home in CA.
Chippy's think it's great. "Only" a Class C DL necessary.
Some have done so, many have been turned down due to DMV "language".
The individual officer's interpretation may be "off the top of his head" - which cold be pro or con.
Others will be "by the book" one-hundred percent.
Ditto for info from the "local" CHP Office.
(Your local CHP office is *not* CHP HQ - that's in Sacramento)
The double tow issue is your biggest obstacle.
If you can - get the approval in writing! -
along with copies of the DMV sections which (you / CHP believe) make it legit.
(You can call CHP HQ in Sacto!)
Then - keep copies with your registration!..:W..:W
BTW - CA has *LOTS* of off road areas - for dirt and sand recreational vehicles, MCs, ATVs, etc.
*If* the swivel was legit behind 5th wheel trailers, there would/should be hundreds of 'em at Glamis, Pismo, etc.
Maybe it just hasn't caught on, or......???
~ - Bill1374ExplorerThat's what I had planned to do to bring my MC with me when I travel. However, in checking it out I found that both NY and Va consider them to be a trailer and both states prohibit double tows.
I elected to switch to a motorhome with an Overbilt lift for the bike and a flat tow car behind. - takenExplorer IIIf it's rated to 65mph it's the same as almost every ST tire on the market... even if it is indeed 8". It's a standard 10" or 12" trailer tire used on tons of snowmobile trailers. Here is their website. They make a dual wheel model as well.
Swivel Wheel
Sorry, I don't see where they say it's a 10 or 12" tire. All their propaganda talks about 8" tires. Also, they don't really talk about speed ratings of their tires. Only one reference to some guy from Carlisle tire saying he thought they'd go to 65MPH...good luck...:S....Dennis - Sport45Explorer IIWell done!

Did you get that OK in a written form or head knod?
Having lived in So Cal for 30 yrs I know that I can get 5 different answers out of CHP asking 4 different officers.
Just saying..........if it isn't in writing it doesn't exist.
Nice means of transporting your ATV. Good job on the build!
Hope you have 'zero' issues.
