Any one towing with a F250 6.2 Gasser?

I am interested in comments.
I will be in the market for a new 3/4 ton pickup for a new trailer.
I was considering the F250 Crew cab, 6.5' bed 6.2 gasser, but here in Reno, Nevada, there are very few on the lot. On the other hand, there are a ton of diesels. So from a shopping perspective, the 6.2 gasser is not very available. I suspect the resale on the diesel would be better as well.

I am currently towing a travel trailer, wife is wanting a 5th wheel. After posting here started looking at travel trailers with similar layouts of the 5th wheels. They are slighter lighter in weight of trailer and tongue weight. Maybe should encourage wife that she can get all she wants in a travel trailer to stay within safe limits of my truck.

I do appreciate all these comments they are really getting us thinking and ready to go looking.

I just traded in my 2012 F250 gasser that I was pulling a 2015 Crossroads Cruiser rl322. Truck was outfitted with Firestone Air Bags. Trailer is 11000 dry. So with junk in it, I was pretty much maxed out. We went on 3 long trips, NH to Myrtle Beach and twice NH to Outer Banks and back. Here's what I can tell you performance wise.
MPG while towing was right at 8MPG
Truck really struggled when going over CT and VA rolling hills. Would scream at very high RPMs in 2nd and 3rd gear, to the point of me asking myself should I be pulling over in the breakdown lane and drive slower?

I traded it in last month for a new 2017 F350 diesel DRW. My stress level has already decreased.

couple of ways to look at. i am older than dirt but took a chance and lived the 8 weeks it took to get the new F250 with 6.2 delivered with 2WD, CC, short box, and 4.30 diffy. Got exactly what I wanted and no add on stuff. That was a 2012 and i could give a flip about selling it or trading it.

Now I do stop in at that stealer quite often. That is because they have the best pop corn in town. :W

Why not go with a F350 only about 4 hundard more sorry did not read enough u have the 250 now

This is a copy of a forum post we did in 2015:
We factory ordered our TV, 4:30 ratio, long box, snow plow package for heavier suspension, Michelin tires, 6 speed tran.
Combo works well for us. We only tow about 7,000 miles per year.

TV: 2014 Ford F250 Super Duty, 6.3 gas, 4.30 ratio, 6 spd.
Coach: 2014 Cougar 327 RES, (Mfg. spec's 10,260 lbs., 1,625 lbs. pin)
Have yet to put it on a scale but could likely add 1,700 lbs. for gear and 1/4 tank of fresh water.

US 90, 79, 19, 77, 95, 4.
Return trip: 2,806.7 miles
Moving time: 56.28 hrs
Moving average 50 mph
I tried to hold the speed at 62 - 63 mph and tried to keep the RPM from going above 3,000. This meant slower hill speeds.

South bound April 2,3 & 4th, 2015
Used speed control when not on wet roads.
6.6 mpg (we had heavy rain)
172.141 US gallons, Average $pg $2.27,

North bound April 16,17 & 18th, 2015
Used manual gas pedal especially in mountains to keep the RPM in check.
6.9 mpg
172.338 US gallons, Average $pg $2.38
Tried to fuel at Flying J and Pilot's to take advantage of the Good Same discount and larger rig friendly fueling stations.

NOTE: we did get up to 9.047 mpg in the Southern state flat lands, but the Blue Ridge, Appalachian , Allegheny mountain ranges brought us down to 6-7 mpg area.

YEP... we did see those diesel dually's through Fancy Gap passing us, but for our use the cost/benefit still supports a single axle gaser.
Coach pulled extremely well... very much appreciated especially after some of those longer days behind the wheel. (single driver)

Nice trip, fuel consumption was at the lower end of our expectation but no big surprise.

GPG! Most realistic MPG on a heavy loaded 6.2 I read so far, I to debated if I was going Diesel or the 6.2. The price of maintenance offsets the mileage gain the dieselholds over the gasser. Ended up with the diesel but next truck may change

Question, approx how much does the 5th wheel hitch weigh? When looking at units trying to figure out how much to deduct from my cargo capacity for the hitch.

If my trucks capacity is 3123 lbs with 13,300 want to determine what the weights I should look at. The one that the wife likes (Keystone Sprinter Limited) has cargo capacity of 3200 lbs. Dry weight of 10,800 and dry hitch weight of 2180. The stuff in our current trailer weights around 1,000 lbs. I don't see us ever getting close to 3200 lbs. Wife has OCD and packs very light :)

I am using this trailer as example to show her what we should be looking at. From reading posts here it seems to be this would not be a fun tow. Which I don't want, but need to show the numbers to the wife so she will look at some of the Jayco's that are a bit lighter.

Mike...hitch weights are all over the board. Sliding hitches usually weigh more. Most figure 200 lbs for the hitch. A B&W 20K hitch for OEM Ford pucks is just over 150 lbs, and a great choice if you have the puck system. OTOH, I think the B&W slider for puck system is near 300 lbs.

Just my opinion, but I think you'd be happier with a FW GVWR of around 12K, and a loaded ready to camp weight of 10-11K. If you had the 4.30 gears, maybe 12-13K actual loaded to camp wt.

I pull a Grand Design 303RLS with a 250 6.2. Not bad at all. Squats just a enough to worry about headlights, but that can be fixed with Timbrens or air bags.
