Hi,I've just finished a divorce and will have possession of my daughter according to an every other weekend and several weeks in the summer arrangement. I plan to full time in a 5th wheel and am looking at several options.A bunkhouse would give my daughter plenty of privacy, but dedicating a room that will only be occupied 30% of the time would be a waste of floorspace.Another option would be a front living layout with a curtain. This would work well, she would have the front when I have her, and I could use it when I don't.I've seen a few rear den layouts that would work well, but by far, the most common floor plan is the rear living/entertainment variety.So this brings me to my question, has anyone installed a curtain in a rear living layout and been happy with it?Thanks in advance,Robedit - didn't mean to imply that having a room for my daughter would be a waste, that came out real cold - all I'm trying to do is see if there is any sort of compromise that gives her her space but is still functional when I'm alone.

I think a curtain, hung from a shower curtain rod type of hanger, would be successful. You didn't say how old your daughter is, but no matter, they all should have privacy. She'd probably consider it "her cave". She'll love being with dad, no matter how you set it up. Best of luck!on edit: Be sure the bathroom (toilet) is private.......that's VERY important for a young lady.

The one thing I would offer: you didn't mention how old your daughter is - but as she gets into middle and high school, she's going to want to bring a friend along. Kids that age are just social creatures :-) So a bunkhouse model - maybe one with a lower futon - might not be such a bad idea? if not now, maybe in the future?

If she doesn't have her own space I don't think you will have to worry about her being around much. I think you should be looking at a bunk house that maybe you could turn into an office or den later on.

At an RV show recently, we saw a really neat TH. The garage area housed the booth dinette an extra television, additional stereo, 1/2 bath, wardrobe, drawers and a drop down bunk. The booth dinette folded to the sides of trailer so an ATV would be optional to carry along but not required to be used as such. The floor plan in the remainder of the trailer was still very spacious and nice. I wish I could remember the brand of the TH. I'll have to see if I picked up a brochure. I think I did. What seemed also neat about this particular trailer was the patio doors heading out to the porch. Not exactly sure how they folded to load ATV but they kept elements out of the garage area and allowed for heated/cooled space leaving the porch opened out. We don't carry toys with us but I could see that floor plan fitting our lifestyle real well. Too bad we are not in the market for anything new.

I say find a camper with a big bathroom for privacy and a living area with a comfortable fold-out bed. Then spend a few extra bucks on some good quality, matching, trendy bedding, just for her. I like the idea of a cubby for her stuff. A small basket in the bathroom for more of her toiletries that she won't have to remember to bring will make her feel at home too.

You have not mentioned the age of your daughter. I think that may make a difference in the thought process.

You can always look at something similar to a hospital curtain that ceiling mounts and can be placed where the bed is. Chicago Canvas has that type material (maybe too heavy for this, you will just have to look. There are also decorative folding panels that can be used as well.

If I was in the exact same situation, I would get the floor plan I like the most, with the best utilized space for daily living. On the weekends I had my daughter, I would give her the bedroom and sleep on the couch. It is only two days, gives her the privacy she might need, and shows her that how she feels is important to me. Additionally, I would have a stash of her stuff in a cuby hole or under the bed that is pulled out when she is there so it feels more like 'home.' This could be a pillow, stuffed animals, whatever. This would show her she has a 'permanent' space in my life. Kids don't necessarily need dedicated space, they just need to know they are welcome and important.

Most girls only need privacy when they are in the bathroom. A pull-out bed should be fine for weekends and summer. Unless she wants a sleepover and brings a friend or two.

Most girls, from about age 9 or so,really want and need a little bit of privacy. I agree with one of the above poster that suggested a 5er that has another bedroom and a half bath.

Friends of ours have the MontanaMontana 338DB and it works so well with kids. They have their grandchildren most of the time. If they don't have them, grand dad uses it as his den/office to complete some work and when kids are with them, they can close the door and the kids have privacy as well as the adults.

As to a curtain - we used hooks and a long metal curtain rod to put a "brown suede shower curtain" across the middle of the hallway of our travel trailer.

Makes it nice when taking a shower as the bath and bedroom are at the end of the hallway, that way we can shower and dress with privacy.

The shower curtain is washable as long as we use a Laundromat with front opening washers, and it dries nicely in a dryer if we don't let it completely dry, and then bring it home to hang up and finish drying.

We have used it for 8 years and it still looks almost new. AND bonus is that it can be taken down if we ever decide to sell or we no longer feel the need of it.

PS: and used a cup hook to put a drapery-cord thingee to wrap around the "curtain" and pull it back out of the way when not drawn across the hallway.
