I had a race car trailer with a heavy door. I used a winch like the one Dirtclods posted the link for to raise and lower the door. Wasn't fast, but saved my back. Installing the winch took a bit of work, so unless you have some advanced skills you may have to visit a well equipped RV or HD trailer repair shop to install it.
