Atwood versus Norcold Refridgerators

I just bought a new 5th wheel and I was surprised to see it came with an Atwood refrigerator. I actually have never seen one before. All my previous RVs always had Norcold and I didn't know anyone else made RV refrigerators.

It looks nice, mine is a 4 door model which I think is 12 cu ft, but I haven't used it yet and wondered if anyone would like to comment on them. Better? Same? Worse?
  • Is that the new Helium fridge?
If so then we haven't heard much about them which is probably a good thing..

    Yes it is.
  • You're probably going to be seeing more Atwood fridges in the future. They're maybe $250-$350 cheaper than the competition. Quality appears to be about the same.

Whenever a manufacturer can save money, they'll take it.

I was talking to a large RV fridge repair shop when my old fridge broke. They said that RV fridges are only good for about 10 years, and as there's no provision for draining moisture off the evaporator coils. But they're capable of being rebuilt. But even getting new coils is an expensive proposition.
  • Between Atwood fridges and Lippert Awnings, its a foreign RV world to me this year

Right? Who would have thunk it.
