Awning question

we have a Carefree Travel'R electric awning (no wind sensor) and just bought an awning shade from here for it. A particular feature we like about it is that it comes in 2 pieces. There's a 4' drop that's installed in a spare slot in the awning roller, then the rest of the drop gets zippered to that piece. In our case, the total awning shade drop is 9' (4' attached to roller + 5' zippered to that). The 4' piece gets rolled up with the awning so you don't have to re-install the shade on the awning roller every time. Also helps if you need to bring the awning in quickly; just unzip the lower piece, release any tie-downs and roll up the awning.
This company also sells end pieces for their shades so guess you could make a room from the shade and end pieces.

Our awning does not have the auto close feature. As they explained it. To many complaints about it closing over a gust of wind. I am just happy to have it open by a switch.

So I will refer to the owners manual for my question. I was hoping someone new. I rely deeply on advice from this forum.

If you have the Carefree of Colorado electric, they now have screen rooms for the electric Trav'ler and Eclipse awnings.

sun shades as well. The best are those that feed into your awning roller, but unzip about 2' below the roller so you can retract the awning without rolling up the whole shade.

My last rig I removed the manual awning in favor of the electric and ain't never going back.

It boils down to how the awning is supported. A manual awning has long arms that attach at the bottom of the trailer or are anchored to the ground. Electrics are attached at the top, only, so are intrinsically less robust, so need to be brought in in fairly light wind conditions.

Would it be too complicated to just turn the automatic rewind switch "off"? Must be missing something. The wind speed required to cause the awning to rewind can be adjusted as well. At least on my awning.

Personally, I much prefer manual awnings. The electrics just aren't robust enough and you lose your shade if the wind blows and it rolls itself up.

Yes. It will try to close. If the sunscreen is tied to the ground, it is likely to try to tear the stakes out of the ground, and continue to roll up, or it will try to rip the top of the awning off the side of the RV, and roll it all up. Or it will stall the awning and cause damage to the motor or gears.

Best not to tie the awning down in any way if you have an automatic wind sensor awning.

I do not know the answer to your question but it does bring up a question of my own. if your awning closes when the wind blows will that make a difference if you have a sunscreen on it?
