We did the same things 6 years ago. I always complained about not being able to move the mattress. Went to the hardware store and bought the cheapest box of peel and stick floor tiles. Thin ones. Hubby and I cut and put them down, they have never peeled off. Best thing we ever did. Can't say its a breeze to make that king bed, but it sure makes the mattress slide where you need it to go..I can now make the bed by my self.

I put some of that bubblewrap and foil insulation under my mattres. It slides easy and it cut down on the radient cold form under neath.

We use a duvet, actually two. The duvet is a thin (or for winter not so thin) quilt in a colorful slipcover; takes the place of the top sheet.
Making the bed: stand at any edge, give the duvet a snap so it settles down flat and you're done. Actually duvet(s); we each one each, less fighting.

We took poly that you buy on a roll and wrapped the chipboard stapling it on the under side. That keeps the poly in place. The mattress slides easily to access the head of the mattress that is normally in the slide.

Great idea, I was thinking a couple sheets of Polyethylene Sheeting, normally used for covering things for painting, would do the trick.

I used the rigid plastic sheeting - a bit like the black stuff used under the bottom of the trailer Corrugated Sheeting. Bought it at Home Depot and used Velcro to keep it in place. Now DW can slide it with ease.

We pull the mattress toward the foot to change the sheets. Have found that placing plastic under the mattress makes it easier to slide. We used a picnic table cover with the fuzz on the back. The fuzz makes it stick to the board under the mattress.

Modifying the the bed so that mattress was on a slide system so that it could be slid back & forth would be nice except for the added weight.
Slide rails plus full sheet of thick plywood to fully support mattress and weight of folks in bed and a locking device so that it didn't slide around when sleeping on it......weight would add up quickly.

We just tag team it when changing sheets.
Pull mattress down, lift head of mattress up, rassle the fitted sheet on, push it back up and then do the bottom.
It is what it is :B

Our king mattress is the same size as the slide out, so I slide the mattress out of the slide out to put the fitted sheet on, then slide it back in to finish making the bed. But it's a huge pain to crawl over the bed to tuck in sheets and blankets. Next trip we're going to try sleeping bags with liners.
