Brake controller, Dodge built in unit

Does anybody know, do you have to use the factory (built in) brake controller? I'm looking a newer Dodge truck and it has one built in but I have a Prodigy that I have had very good results with.

  • 2010 Dodge IBC is marginal at best. They did get better a couple years newer. You can replace it with a Prodigy but you need to provide power to the factory unit or you will get a warning light on the dash. The way to do it is to use the Prodigy plug in harness for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee or new new Dodge Durango. That will fit into the plug that now goes to your factory IBC. You then tap a ground and a hot wire from that to feed you original brake controller to make it "think" it's still part of the circuit...
  • Chevy guy here, but the integrated brake controller in my truck is great. Trailer brakes are so smooth with the truck. I strongly recommend using the truck controller. Sell the old one on CraigsList. You will not regret it.
  • Yes, you can use the prodigy with a little surgery. But I would try the OEM controller first.
