Can a fixed 5th wheel hitch be used on a standard bed truck?

As noted above, it depends on configurations. Good friend knocked out his short bed truck back window with his 5er with squared off lower front corners. Traded for a newer 5er with contoured lower front corners and no more problem (although he was also a little more careful).
