Cedar Creek 36CK2 vs. 34RL2?

We are considering replacing our 38' Bunk House with a rear living room floor plan. We are currently torn between the Cedar Creek 34RL2 and 36CK2. My concern is the model we like is tipping the scale over 40'. I know the 36CK2 is new for this year, however is almost the same length as the 36CKTS (if anyone has this model). Does anyone with either the 36CK2 or CKTS wish they had gone with a shorter floorplan? I swore when I bought our current 38' I wouldn't go any longer.

  • Thanks for the response Racer4. You hit all the key points of concern for me. I was primarily concerned accessing different sites. The CK2 also has the larger bedroom which my wife likes. Are you happy with the Cedar Creek so far?
  • I went from a 32' TT to a 40' 2017 Cedar Creek 36CKTS.

I thought I would be cussing the extra length when backing into campsites etc, but it would be worth it for the extra room inside.

So far we have towed the CC 6000 miles and it has been easier than I thought to maneuver. We have been to many state park and provincial park campgrounds and have not had any more problem backing into campsites than the 32' TT was. Really. I was surprised and my wife was really surprised. She was ready to say "I told you this was going to be too big".

I prefer the smaller bathroom (36CKTS) and consequently larger bedroom, living room and kitchen compared to the 36CK2.

The pantry in the 36CK2 is nice, but we have more than enough "pantry" space in the various and larger cabinets the 36CKTS has (our early 2017 does not have the pantry, like a 2016). When you gain the larger bathroom, you lose the larger cabinets to the right of the refrigerator.
  • Well you could always go to a large empty parking lot, set up some orange cones and practice backing into space should you get the longer coach before actually going to a campground.
  • Thanks for ALL the responses. We currently have a 38' Jayco Eagle 345 BHS. Towing with a GMC Sierra 3500 DRW, w/ Duramax/Allison. I went through the samething when buying the truck. Wouldn't turn back on the dually after towing with it - Powerhouse of a truck. We like the idea of a little bit extra space in front bedroom as well as the living room. We will be utilizing the living room for sleeping area, so we are thinking the bigger living room will make up for ditching the bunkhouse.??? Just concerned on going another 3' with the Cedar Creek, access into sites, etc.
  • Had a Cardinal 33CKTS for 10 years. Traded up to a Cedar Creek 36CKTS.

    NO second thoughts NO regrets.

Every day I look at the CC this look comes over my face :) :C :B

  • All the floorplans above are very livable, which suits your needs best is your call, no need for me to comment on my likes or dislikes. I will say that going 2' to 3' longer is not a deal breaker for me, but we camp mostly out West where a couple of feet rarely matters. Hope you have a great experience with whatever choice you make.
  • I am watching this thread, as these are the 2 models we are also considering....however, buying a DRW would have to come first for the 38CK2....not necessarily for the 34RL2....

We are 'creekers' for life....after the no cost warranty work we received on our 2009 this summer. Denise Davis and crew were FANTASTIC!
  • We looked at both plus the 36CKTS. Bought the 36CKTS. Moved up from a somewhat troublesome Heartland Big Country 34 ft. Reasons we went with the 36CKTS. Smaller bathroom with one sink. We don't live in the bathroom don't need two sinks. Bigger bedroom, more kitchen counter space than either of the others. Like the extra window behind the television that we can use when the TV is lowered. Not much difference in towing. Feel like the extra length is easier to back. Turns slower when backing. Not much if anything about this trailer we don't like. Not filled with cheap flashy frills that fall apart. Good solid construction. Cedar Creek factory customer service is excellent. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

  • Coach we are looking at is 5' longer than current one. Not really concerned w/ length. Have seen some coaches advertised over 42'. Longer does offer you more room someplace inside it. On CC's w/ the double bathroom sink (mid-coach), that adds to overall length. So depends on what you want. Can't go wrong w/ a CC as we've been happy with ours. But as winds change, not overly happy w/ some changes in the Silverback line to which we really like the 35IK and factory seems unwilling to make corrections, considering A Heartland for next rig. Having been w/ CC for past 11+ years, got to know what we like dislike within the ranks. Hathaway Editions like the Silverbacks, both have good/bad points. But cannot combine the 2. Tho we are looking at another brand, will still think very highly of CC and their quality.
