Some of you have probably read my many posts in the past about the "chucking" and jerking I've been experiencing when towing my new Jayco 5th wheel. I've been towing with a 2013 GMC 2500HD Duramax with a standard bed using a Andersen Ultimate hitch. CA roads are in terrible condition and the chucking was quite bad anytime I hit a dip or rough place in the road. This was bad enough that I started to question my decision about buying a 5th wheel. I also learned that this is also quite common in 5th wheels. In my previous posts, I received lots of different opinions and advice about a remedy and all made good sense but many people didn't like the Andersen hitch. I wasn't willing to just toss it and buy a whole new hitch set up so we tried several things first. Pin weight was mentioned many times so we tried that first...no change. Trailer height was another so we leveled it out...no change. Put Bilstein shocks on the truck...no change.Well, I finally decided to try a shock absorbing pin box. We installed a MORryde rubber pinbox and I am happy to report that it made a huge difference! The chucking still happens slightly over certain conditions but for the most part...it's gone! I am very pleased with the results. I'll never own another 5th wheel without one!Thanks to everyone that had some input.

Glad it worked out for you, and I'm also very happy with my MORryde pinbox. You can only do so much with bad roads.

this is the exact combo that has given my FIL such a good ride. He had the Mor Ride first then Andersen but his ride is silky smooth and hitching and unhitching is much easier on him!! Glad you have it handled Chris

Did you install yourself?I got it online from Tweety's for $484, no sales tax, no shipping. It was the best buy anywhere that I could find. My son and I installed it. It's pretty heavy but once we got one bolt in, it was easy. It was a little harder because I wanted it mounted as high as possible in the bracket so we had to wrestle it a bit to get the first bolt in.

This system works very well but they do not make the anti chucking TriGlide portion any longer.

If I remember, that was NOT a Mor ride either it was a factory lippert pin box. I still say the weight is carried by the 2 large bolts going to both sides of the pin. All the set screws do is hold the adapter plate straight and keep it from moving.

What are you talking about?? The weight is carried in the same place as normal, right at the pin! The set bolt holds the adapter in the pin groove with the large bolts. The 4 set screws keep it from spinning and moving. There just doesn't seem to be any merit to your post

Well the pin weight is carried on the points of the four set screws. They hold the adapter block a small distance off the pin box plate, so therefore carry all the weight of the pin. This is what damaged Searching_UT's plate.

The set screws bear a portion of the pin weight, but when the vehicle is in motion, physics demands that the pin itself also bears some weight. I totally agree that the Andersen adapter resulted in damage to SearchingUT's pin box, but it was never determined if his pinbox was structurally correct in the first place. I am surprised no one has mentioned the TrailAir pin box. Little more than MORryde, but works very well. It also helps out on excessive force on the pin during harsh road conditions.

At 18 percent most 5th wheels will chuck.

Yep, I run about 22% to have a smooth ride, to each their own, but I would rather fix the root cause, than just mask it!

Good to hear the morryde pinbox and the andersen ultimate work well together. I asked the question once to Andersen and they weren't sure if the pinbox change would be helpful.

The bottom line for me is that I can now tow this 5th wheel without the stress and discomfort of chucking and jerking over every bump. MORryde may not have corrected the source of the problem but they sure eliminated the effects of it. I'm done spending time and money on this....I'm going camping.
