Most chucking, if not all, can be prevented by moving the center of hitch forward of the axle. With short bed trucks, the tendency is to mount the fifthwheel directly on or behind the center axle. I have never experienced chucking in my own trucks. I have installed all my hitches 1"-2" forward of rear axle. I will never own a truck to pull a fifthwheel with a short bed.
I have a long bed.

Have a good day.john&bet wrote:Old-Biscuit wrote:I have a question for you. In your opinion what is chucking. I have towed 5th wheels since '05 all over the northern part of this country and do not believe we have any chucking. Porpoising, as in up and down, yes, but no front to back in the pin connection. Thanks.
Light pin weight will cause chucking
Nose High towing can cause chucking
To much clearance between hitch jaws and king pin (slop) can cause chucking
Chucking...
Trailer constantly pushing/pulling against truck....regardless of road surface
That annoying feeling your truck is constantly being 'bumped' into
(like your kid sitting in backset kicking the back of your drivers seat) :B
Except 'chucking' is in both directions (fore/aft)
