LOL, I just might come your way sometime. Say hell to the wife & daughter for me. I do plan on going more this summer. Then going to Ind for a month in Aug or Sept. Keep in touch buddy. I will be adding 200w of solar next week to go along with my new 6v bank.

How's the snow Ed? had the a/c on in the car today. Hope you find some good areas to ride. Gonna miss you guys @ Happy Jack this summer. I will be all alone. Had to put Missy down a few weeks ago.

It is for snowmobiling. :) Mid July to Mid August is prime season there. Earlier or later and there will be some trails still closed. Mid to late June you can ride the lower areas around the trading post but the passes will be closed most times. For early season try Divide North OHV or Rainbow Falls OHV from the links I posted earlier. If were in between storms those can be good in March.

The kid has the last week of March off from school. Is that area open that time of year? I moved here Dec 1st so I have yet to have a full years/seasons under my belt.

Well If your going from Colorado springs the drive up 24 is easier than 50 in my opinion. There are really not a lot of hills either way but 50 is a winding road following the river most of the way and is kinda slow.

24 is a little more open and you can go a bit faster once you get through Florissant.

Really your decision would be made by which way you want to get to Taylor Park. 24 makes the most sense if your going over cottonwood pass. 50 makes more sense if your going in the back way through Gunnison.

I'll probably do a day trip over, one way hwy 50, come back hwy 24 and see which is less wild downgrades.

Hopefully someone will answer this better than I because this will be somewhat convoluted...

I drove hwy 50 about 16 years ago and I do not recall very many hills...but again, 16 years ago.

Hwy 24, uh, yeah, I rode my road bike from Vail to Leadville and it seemed somewhat mountainous but again, a much different perspective. But keep in mind, Leadville is at 10k feet so there has to be ascents.

I take Hwy 285 from where I live and then to Buena Vista and up over Cottonwood. Yes it is a pass, but there are far worse passes in CO than Cottonwood where I would not consider towing my TT. Cottonwood? That would be my only choice as going down to Gunnison adds a good solid extra hour. Plus the drive is not as scenic.

EDIT: I see, you're talking hwy 24 from Co Springs area. Completely different part of hwy 24 however I have driven that stretch. Again, a while back but if you are looking to avoid Cottonwood Pass, probably take 50 to Gunnison.

Dumb side question. Which way has the least amount of hills? Hwy 24 or 50?
