Cougar 244 vs Sundance XLT 245

So I thought I had it all figured out with the Cougar 244 then I went to the RV Show in Pomona and discovered Heartland Sundance makes essentially the same floorplan and options as the Keystone Cougar for essentially the same price. The downside of the Sundance is the holding tank capacity and the Cougar is a local dealer where the Sundance is about a 1.5 hour drive. The positive side is my local dealer will not trade in my current TC and the Sundance dealer (Giant RV) will.

What would you choose and why?

Is the local dealer worth going to Cougar?

Does Sundance have a superior construction over Cougar?

Any help, thoughts, and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
  • We get a poop load of Cougars in every week or so for repair. I can only remember 1 Sundance coming in for repair.
  • I currently own a Sundance XLT 245RL and couldn't be happier. It seems to have many upgrades that came standard on it that are expensive options on other brands. I bought it early this spring and have had zero problems with it. My previous RV was a Keystone product, and I had nothing but problems with it the first year. I will say that after all those issues were resolved, I had no more problems with it for the last four years that I owned it.
  • Well, it seems to be a poop shoot! The Cougar and Sundance are comparable rigs and both have many happy owners. Having owned products from both Keystone and Heartland, I can say the Heartland experience was more positive from factory support to dealer service. Look closely at the service department where you plan to buy and select the rig you like best!
