Cummins Onan 5500 Generator

FACTS:

2014 Toy Hauler purchased in August 2013
Camped with no issues through September
Ran generator for 30 minutes in October
Ran generator for 30 minutes in November

I went out today to run it again today. (I planned to run it monthly for 30 minutes) It started and ran for about 30-60 seconds then quit. It sounded rough and "clunky" when it was running but it was very cold outside. NOW IT WON'T START!

It turns over just fine and I can smell gas after priming it, however it will not start. I used a bunch of Stabil in the gas tank before storing it.

Any ideas?
  • My 4000 did the same thing. I ended up having the fuel pump replaced twice under waranty.
  • I never had an issue with my 5500 Gold. The stock fuel filter is a metal canister - Going to a clear one will tell you if you have fuel delivery problem. How does the air filter look? Did anything try to build a home in the intake or exhaust?
  • Don't know if the new ones have it but I put on a clear, inline, fuel filter to 1) see the gas being primed, 2) to see for any leaks in the line (ie loss of fuel in filter), and 3) to trap an sediment.

PS. I have gone through 3 carburetors and had it at the factory twice. I used fuel stabilizer, etc. but it is the worst generator ever put into production (in my opinion of having different gen sets in my TH). I have the Onan 5500 Gold and what an unreliable piece of junk. Thanks for listening. :)
  • What does the plug look like? Is it wet or Dry? Is there spark at the plug?

    Just things to check.
