Except towing with a good 3rd gen. My FIL even said that of his 13 Duramax Alley and he is a GM man. - VulcaneerExplorerMy 2012 F350 towing 14,000 gets 10.5MPG in hills and mountains of the northeast. And 11.2 MPG in less hilly terrain of the south east (I-95 in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia). And 12.0 on the flat highways in Florida.
Highway non towing averages 16MPG.
I have 25,000 miles on the truck. About 10K of that is towing. - rhagfoExplorer III

How can it be even better than it's IDENTICAL TWIN??
Add that before locking the thread... :)
Like Ford and Mercury, the Mercury's came with lock washers! :B - bobx2Explorer

06 and 07 Classic's with LBZ engines were really good models, and have 6 speed Allisons.
You can buy a lot of gas for the F150 for the price of trading up.

He asked best!!! I gave the best answer so far. The trucks I identified will get 14-15 towing his trailer maybe even a little higher and 24-25 empty on the highway. Chris
Gonna have to raise the BS flag on these numbers. Take 5 mpg off of them, and then they are realistic.
No the numbers I posted are real for that vintage Dodge/Cummins 2X4 with manual transmissions.
I tow a 12K+ tall 5th wheel with a 2001.5 Dodge/Cummins 4x4 with 4.10 gears and auto, which averages over 12MPG between Washington and Arizona. Get 19-20 empty on the road at 60-65.
Chris
Most numbers are BS these are not!
