- my996duc1ExplorerCan a couple guys check out a couple things for me ??
I was told by a local trailer builder/shop the middle spring equalizer should be a rectangle and not the same as the end hangers, per DOT requirements.
Mine has an end spring hanger in the middle position.
Does everyone else have the same thing or is mine "special" ?

Also was told the four leaf pack springs are rated at 2200lbs each.
The same trailer builder/shop said the springs should meet or exceed the axle ratings, per DOT requirements.
Anyone have anything other than the four leaf springs in each pack from the factory ?
Begining to wonder if the shop knows what they are talking about and my trailer is not up to spec or if they are quoting old requirements or requirements that do not pertain to campers...

Took mine out this last weekend. First day I tripped the thermal fuse on the hot water heater on mine this last weekend. I had to drive an hour to get a new one and they cost $31 a pair. I would suggest making or buying a spare to keep on hand.
I opened the hot water heater cover while it was running and the wind flipped the flame up onto the thermal fuse for a second and tripped it.
Anyone know how to adjust the air slide on the Atwood water heaters ?? Mine is getting the outside side cover screen black and I was told by another camper the air slide isn't adjusted correctly. I played with the air slide adjuster and ended up right back to where it was. I tried getting a blue flame in the burner but it was making popping noise so I slid it back to where it was.
Got back and a buddy asked why I didn't switch over to electric on the water heater. Everything I see in the manual says it is gas.... nothing on being electric.
Do we have a switch somewhere on these to use it with elctricity instead of gas ??

When I brought mine home from the dealer I had the black flame issue also. I took off the air adjuster then the orifice. Ran a very small meddle through the orifice ( don't want to open up the orifice more) then blew out the area behind the orifice ( by mouth, not with compressed air). There must have been manufacturing debris in there. It's been fine since. No electric... Only gas. Manual tells how to set the flame with the air adjuster. - my996duc1ExplorerTook mine out this last weekend. First day I tripped the thermal fuse on the hot water heater on mine this last weekend. Surprised you noticed. When I put my landing gear up this pin caught on the frame and bent it over. I was at the dunes so I had to grind the pin off.then had to removed the foot and used that pin to hold the leg up. I got another pin and learned to have the head of the pin on the frame side. Not fun laying in the sand on your back with a grinder. I'm just lucky someone in my group had one. There's one in my tool box now. - bradley0128ExplorerRe: landing gear.
Mine retract all the way up. My landing switch actually stuck once. I had the genny and truck running, so I didn't hear it....until I heard the override clutches clicking. Sucked up so far it bent the feet on the frame. It also snapped the bolt on the bar tying the landing gear together.that was easy to replace. I was also able to hammer the feet back in shape.
I still need to measure my height. Claimed 13 ft. I don't think I need to flip. Plus, I really don't want to raise my center of gravity 5 inches. I might end up gaining 2 inches by putting in Equaflex . My worry there is.I don't want to throw off the angle of the springs.
Anyone converted to disc brakes yet? Where is the best.source?
I have.a gooseneck adaptor on right bled but am too worried about the extra stress. I have the B&W system, so have decided to use their companion hitch in conjunction with a Mor/Ryde pin box. And on that, I have the med length box but want to order the long, giving me 6 inches more. My goose adaptor has 9 " extra reach. I can turn fairly tight. Anyone used any of this? Anyone used a longer box? I'm concerned about how it'll effect the flex where it bolts to the chassis. - StrutterExplorer

I'm curious what those more experienced think. Am I too nose high and should I consider flipping the axles?
Nice pic, is that pismo? We are only 30 minutes from there but never really go. I would say it does look a little nose hight but im no fan of making the trailer taller I would rather see if you can lower the truck some how.
Yep on my way out of Pismo Presidents day weekend. I used to go quite often back in the '90's. We like Sand Mountain better so haven't been to Pismo in probably 8 years. I forgot how bad the rust can start after just a long weekend. Noticed it mostly on the leaf springs on my truck. - StrutterExplorer

Where is your landing gear ??
Mine hangs down about 11" when fully retracted.
You can see it in this old picture from the day I bought it.
I've been chased down and flagged down because people have thought I left it hanging down.... but that's is far as I know how to retract it. Can I retract it more ??

My legs do go up higher than yours if I slide the leg all the way up to the feet. Not sure why that's as high as you can go. - danojenoExplorerThats what mine looks like, but...I'm flipped.

It was $354.xx out the door.
I dropped it off at 8am and Darrell called and it was ready for pick up right at noon.

Here are my measurements...
stock entry step = 10"
flipped entry step = 15"
stock axle tube to frame = 3.5"
flipped axle tube to frame = 9"
flipped axle spring plate to frame = 7"
stock overall height is claimed = 12'9" (I didn't measure this pre-flip)
flipped axle overall height = 13'1"
The numbers don't make sense to me but I measured them all a couple times.... not sure what to make of the numbers.
