MSRP, where do they get it, LOL Dealers can ask what they want. Like with a lot of things the mark up is there for a sales tool... a sales tool to make the consumer think he has won.
MSRP is for their dealers and public as a starting point....manufactures do not sell retail...hence their dealer network.
Then it is up to the consumer and dealer to agree on a dollar amount that is agreeable to both.
This is not something new!! Manufacturers and dealers have to make a profit as in any business so why the questions??
So for the consumer...negotiate and get the best deal possible.
It's new for me!! MSRP on autos is standard. The same everywhere. and you can access it on the manufacturer's site. MSRP stands for 'manufacturer's suggested retail." This term states that the originator of the price is the manufacturer. In this case, MSRP should be the same everywhere.
If the dealers are setting their own prices, then they are using the wrong terminology, which is quite misleading, given that people are used to the proper used of that terminology. This is the outrage, not that they are making money. I can appreciate that everyone has to make a profit.
This is the RV industry not the Automobile industry!
Something to be aware of and remember is in the RV industry there is "Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price" and "Suggested Retail Price". See the keyword?
Believe it is law (not sure if Federal or by State), in the Automobile industry that dealers display the MSRP in a window...not sure if required in the RV industry.
Actually Suggested Retail Price is common in all retail business...not sure why it is questioned in the RV industry??
Oh, and yes there are RV MSRP's.
Here are a couple;
Towable.
Motorized.
