Try to make it part of the deal. - BB_TXNomadDon't automatically assume based on the comments above that a dealer is going to be higher than an any other source. Check with the dealer about giving you a deal on a hitch if you purchase the 5er from him. When we bought our 5er, the dealer offered a hitch (Pullrite Super 5th) installed at his cost. Checking other sources, he was not lying, his price was at or below any other I could find. I know, unusual for a salesman. And the hitch and the installation was flawless.
B&W, Pullrite, Reese, Curt, and other name brands all make very good hitches. Some brands do offer multiple price levels from the "economy" hitch to the higher end hitch. Don't go cheap. - vvusteveExplorerwow thanks for quick replies.

should I buy hitch at dealer with fifth wheel purchase or have one installed before going to dealer ? thanks for any response
Where in AZ are you? If near the East Valley, check out Lewis Hitch, in Chandler. Excellent people to deal with and hitches is what they =do=. :B I did my own B&W Turnover Ball and Companion and helped my brother do his, but we were much younger. Now, they'd do all my work.
To answer your question, I'd much prefer a specialty hitch shop over 99% of the dealers out there.
Lyle - bpoundsNomadIf you are a first time fiver buyer, you may get some peace of mind by having experts install your first hitch and set it up properly with your new trailer. You'll pay for that of course, compared to what you can do on your own. But if your negotiating skills are finely honed, it may not cost you very much.
- It is kind of a catch 22 situation. You can get a hitch cheaper elsewhere but how many installers are there to actually put them in. Most 5th wheel hitches are installed by dealers. Therefore dealers have the most experience.
I went to a small local dealer that sells very few new units but does service on just about anything. I bought and had them install the hitch there. My 5th wheel was delivered from out of state.
If you have a new truck with the puck system installation may be easy enough to do it yourself. - fj12ryderExplorer IIICheck prices and see how the dealer compares. Very unlikely he'll be anywhere near what you can get it for elsewhere, but you never know. Keep all your options open.
But, yeah, hard to beat the B&W hitch. :) - B_O__PlentyExplorer IIBuy one online along with the mounting kit and have it installed locally or do it yourself. Save about 1/2 the price of what a dealer charges. I don't buy anything from a dealer. They always charge too much.
