- bigdon68ExplorerRIDE IN COMFORT. I am partial to an air ride hitch. Here is the one I use -- the Trailer Saver 3 -- TS3. I think the name says it all:
Air Hitch from Hensley Mfg

should I buy hitch at dealer with fifth wheel purchase or have one installed before going to dealer ? thanks for any response
You did not say what kind of truck you have. But if you have the right truck spend the money one time and get a real hitch. Either a air safe 25K hitch with the Brinkley Holland Head or a Hensley air hitch with the Brinkley Holland head. You won't regret it. The truck and trailer will ride smooth. Neither one in a bind. You won't know the 5th wheel is behind you. My first choice is the 25k air safe hitch. That is the one I have. I have never regretted spending the money. You spend a lot of money on the 5th wheel . So why not get a good hitch to go with it, So neither you or the 5th wheel gets jerked around. On my 5th wheel nothing moves in the trailer and that includes behind the wheels which is the roughest riding. The only time something moves is if I have to slam on the brakes. But under normal driving nothing moves - Tango__AE7UIExplorerI elected to have a hitch shop install my B&W.
The service body on the 1 ton p/u gave them a challenge.
Happy with the installation and the hitch performance. - HammerboyExplorerI had the dealer install a B&W patriot slider, next time I'll do it myself as I feel I can do a better job plus it isn't rocket science to install one. Last truck I installed a Pullritecsuperglide myself and that is a very good hitch as well. The reason I went with the B&W this time around is they are a very good hitch plus I needed a manual slider as I have a hill I have to back down to get to the barn at our current house. This allows more of an angle when going over the crest of the hill if that makes sense.

I checked and was not able to find the same hitch for less money.
IMO the best hitch out there or at least one of the best. Mine is several years old ,but the same head, and slider. Having never owned a B&W, , but can't imagine it has anything over on the Reese I have with ease of unhitching ,and unhitching. Like the claims with B&W when backed into, and jaws close there is no doubt you are hitched. - Edd505Explorerhttp://www.curtmfg.com/part/16130
- tinner12002ExplorerMost dealers from what I've seen only offer certain brands/models so you don't have much of a selection from them, doesn't mean they can't order one though. See if they will include an installed hitch for the price you've negotiated for the RV. Hopefully your getting at least 30% off of the MSRP of the RV.
- ETCrockettExplorerI traded my TT for a 5er in January and had the same question. After doing my research for best hitch for my TV and 5er I wanted to buy I started shopping locally and on the internet. Once I found the best price for the hitch I wanted, I found the dealer selling the 5er was more than willing to price match on the hitch as part of the deal. Important part of negotiating: don't bring up price match on the hitch until the dealer reveals the best price on the 5er! You don't want him to add the price match back into the hitch! I went with B&W Companion 20K. Only used it 4 times since January but I can say it is 100% easier to hitch my 5er than the TT ever was and had the TT for 12 years.
Good luck! - maskinsExplorerI went through this last year. I saved $500 by going to a local hitch company and got a b&W patriot over the reese hitch the rv dealer was going to install.

I purchased this from the dealer at dealer cost with my trailer.
I checked and was not able to find the same hitch for less money.
