The intercomm must be like a baby monitor where it's always open for the driver to hear what is going on in the 5th wheel.
Not every state requires radios or any communication device. - discovery4usExplorerI have had passengers ride in both of my FW's. The door must be able to be unlocked from the inside and open communication from TV to FW. Many mornings while traveling the DW and mutts would stay in bed and I would get up early and get a few hours down the road before she would let me know to pull over and come back to have breakfast.

ENOUGH SAID!!!
NO NOT EHOUGH SAID!!! This is obviously a "cleaned up" rv debris pile. I doubt if the crash lined up the propane bottles perfectly. Nice try on the sensationalism.
Instead try some facts. Post some links where people where killed riding in a fifth wheel, go ahead, we're waiting. More people are killed walking across the street every day than riding in fifth wheels ever.
NOW IT"S ENOUGH SAID THERE SKIPPY!!!! - the_bear_IIExplorerX2 just like riding in a MH if properly setup.

- KATOOMExplorerI've seen this topic discussed before and it never ceases to amaze me how many people think its dangerous. :h Yes its legal to ride in a moving 5th wheel trailer in many states but only if you have a true 5th wheel positive locking hitch. No gooseneck adapters. Is it safe? Sure, why not? No different than riding in a motorhome..... In regards to all the scary crash pictures everyone likes to post.....I've seen plenty of pictures of motorhomes burnt up or smashed into a million pieces on the roadways but yet people still continue pile in them everyday without a care in the world.
Is the ride bumpy back there? Well I think thats going to depend on the setup. Some RVer's say its uncomfortable and some say its not. My 5th wheel rides very smooth and I've had people back there playing games while tooling along the highway. Yes, you HAVE to have communication between passengers and driver which is achieved with a couple walkie-talkies or any other type of similar device. I tend to stay in close communication with the riders and I'll pull over in rest stops now and again just because more than an hour or two and it doesnt matter what you're in, ya need to stretch your legs. The only time I'm not OK with anyone back there is when I'm driving in snowy or icy conditions and in saying that, I'd be just as uncomfortable if I was in a motorhome in those conditions as well. - fj12ryderExplorer IIISure have, no biggie. Nobody died, they said the ride was not bad at all, so they napped. I can't ride back there, I get car sick too easily.
As far as these silly pictures of wrecked trailers, have you seen many pictures of wrecked air liners? And yet for some reason people fly in those things all the time.
It just depends on how you feel about it and what the laws are in the state you're going to be traveling in/through. I would really imagine you're more likely to be injured in a wreck in your car than in your 5th wheel trailer, since there are many, many more car wrecks than 5th wheel wrecks. - downtheroadExplorer
Posting pictures or wrecked travel trailers is not consistent with the OP's question of passengers in a 5TH WHEEL TRAILER..
Sure it is...a picture is worth a thousand answers... (I think that's how it goes). - drfifeExplorerPosting pictures or wrecked travel trailers is not consistent with the OP's question of passengers in a 5TH WHEEL TRAILER.
I have not towed with a passenger in the 5th wheel. I probably never will. But, it is legal in many states with certain provisions.
Passengers in motorhomes should be seated and wearing seat belts. I'm sure that everyone does that too ;) . - NO WAY would I allow someone to ride back there....
