Fiver satallite

I use a regular DTV SWM dish and a tripod I bought online. Manual pointing isn't too difficult. The automatic ones are cool, but expensive (especially if you want full HD and multi-channel at once support).

Also have the Tailgater and use it. I have a couple mounting options.

I bought a 1 1/2" plastic electrical flange and a square piece of 1/8" aluminum sheet. I attached the flange to the aluminum plate. I drilled and tapped the four nubs on the base of the Tailgater and attached the plate/flange to the base of the Tailgater.

1) Used the mounting bracket and curved "pipe" from the eave of the house mounting assembly, bought a couple "U" bolts and can now attach it to the rear ladder at any height.

2) Have the short tripod for the old dish antenna/LNB set up and a taller tripod if I need more height away from the RV that I attached a 2 ft. section of straighe 1 1/4" EMT electrical conduit.

Use the Dish for my RV app to find the holes in the trees and am watching tv in short order.

You don't have to spend hundreds on a typical RV satellite system. I bought a Direct TV dish with a triple LNB and 100' of cable off of Craigslist for $20. I had a spare receiver in the house from when my oldest daughter moved out that wasn't being used. I built a wood platform with holes in it to mount three long, large bolts with extra nuts on them to adjust the level. A three point level is easy to accomplish. The receiver has setup options that allow you to see and hear the signal strength. Once I performed the set up a few times I could set it up and aim the dish in 10 minutes. We had local channels on our system and as long as you stayed with 250 miles of home the local channels will always work. If you travel 250 miles outside of your home area there is always local channels available via your standard RV antennae.

Tailgator has worked great for us. We tried other systems and always had problems. We solved that with the tailgater.

We use a Tailgater as well. We've been very happy with it.

We love our Tailgater with Dish. Used for last 3 years in Washington and no problems with trees. As you indicate it is portable so you can find a clear shot to the sats.

Our tailgater has worked great for us over 3 1/2 years. Single coax hookup and automatic search for satellites. Just sit it down in a general Southerly direction and it does the rest. Great little unit with the same results we had with our fixed base unit when we were stationary.

We have the pathway x2, and I would say you need a damn good clear view of the southern sky to get multiple satellites. In my backyard when I set it up, I could maybe get one but the trees were pretty high. When I tried at a friends, worked great, had a clear view of the sky from every direction. Every camping trip so far...3 different campgrounds, no dice too many trees.

That said, with the x2 you can get western arc sats as well as the eastern ones..so all the campsites I was unable to get the eastern arc sats, I switched over to the western ones and had no issues. Other than local channels...not sure if its related or not.

You just need a "hole" thru the trees. Use a sat finder app on your smart phone (I use dishformyrv app) to find an opening. Doesn't take much, but still must be a clear opening.

I do also have the Tailgater.

We have the Travl'r mounted on the roof of our five and a hole through the trees is right. We've done that several times. Even gone as far as keeping the trailer hitched to the pickup, fiver plugged in and satellite up to get the right "hole". When all is good, we unhook!
