We owned a 2001 Cardinal by Forest River which we purchased used back in 2003 from the original owner. This past February we traded the Cardinal for a 2015 Cedar Creek Silverback 29RE. We had planned to trade the Cardinal for a 2012 Silverback 29RL, but while prepping the unit the dealer discovered water damage in the slides. They said they'd fix it, but we didn't want it.
We ended up with the new Silverback 29RE and have been pleased thus far. Our Cardinal was a great unit and that's why we stuck with Forest River. Plus we liked the quality and the floorplan.
As with any used unit you definitely want to check it over thoroughly. An earlier poster included a clicky about a 2012 Silverback with water damage in the slides. I would certainly hope that if there was an issue with the slides and leaking water, as we found in the used unit we almost purchased, Forest River corrected whatever the problem was.

we are looking at buying a used silverback 5th wheel from forest river and want to know if there are any reasons why we shouldn't buy that brand
. . .
I think that buying a Silverback is a great choice. We have a Cedar Creek and really like it. The Silverback is basicly the same as the Silverback. Same body. The Cedar Creek has more Amentaties than the Silverback. The Silverback is cheaper and lighter than the Cedar Creek.
The Forest River factory people are very nice to work with. - Parrothead_MikeExplorerWe owned a 2001 Cardinal by Forest River which we purchased used back in 2003 from the original owner. We have had very few problems over the years....and hope to hang on to it for several more.
Good Luck - PhoneDude_8289ExplorerA good PDI list is a must. Take your time, don't let the person demonstrating the unit rush you and take lots of notes. Take a good look at everything from the roof to the ****y tires. Your first year with your new RV may require some snd sometimes lots of repairs. The first year is usually the worst for repairs on a new unit.

- Second_ChanceExplorer IIOf course, it can happen to any brand, but this was just posted a little while ago in this same forum:

Fellow Cedar Creekers,
I own a 2001 34 ft. Cedar Creek with 3 slides and recently the main room slide has had difficulty extending. The pump seems to be running as it should and the other slides work perfectly but the main slide seems to "inch" it's way out and stopping and starting the motor seems to make it a little faster. The slide goes right back in as fast as it ever did but getting it out is a problem. Any ideas? The CB's were replaced recently and one of the solenoids also. Oh, the oil level in the reservoir is up to the top. I'm stumped.
