Ironically, the fuel consumption in gallons between LP and gasoline on an Onan 6500 at full load is identical.
Otherwise the gasoline offers slightly better efficiency at low loads or smaller units, and the amp yield is slightly higher with gasoline, but the trade of is lower maintenance with the LP and the ability to rely on a single fuel source.
Now Inerter type units such as the Honda EU type are a different story, as they can actually throttle down to the actual load (Onan has one speed - high) which offers tremendous efficiency for a boondocking, but there is the hassle of storing, setting up, and carrying fuel.
Check the specs on the unit you are considering - they are far more truthful and accurate than a salesman!
